This national park located in Matale and Polonnaruwa district, 50kms northeast to Kandy. It’s about 39,300ha. The Park is contiguous to Riverine Nature Reserve. Annual temperature about 27c.It is bordered by the Mahaweli River and the Amban Ganga. This Park is famous for Elephants and Birds. Nearly 150 elephants are known to be living in this park. From 143 Birds, 8 of them are endemic. Of special interest to those who like butterflies ,nearly 50 species of butterflies have been recorded in this park

Leopard, Sloth Bear, Golden Jackal, Water Buffalo, SpottedDeer, Sambar Deer, Fishing Cat and Wild Boar are the some of the animals that can be found living here. This park is under the Department Of Wildlife Conservation.
